OBESITY SURGERY – LAPAROSCOPIC SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY
Laparosocopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, the most common sleeve gastrectomy surgery in the world is a comfortable operation that ensures a satisfactory weight loss. Conducted under general anesthesia, the method is applied via a laparoscopic surgical technique.
The key factor responsible from the creation of the feeling of hunger in the stomach is the Ghrelin Hormone. This hormone is predominantly excreted from the stomach curvature. In a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, this part in question is removed. Thus, the levels of Ghrelin Hormone in the blood drop significantly. The feeling of hunger weakens and appetite decreases. Since the gastrointestinal flux tract is going to be narrowed after the surgery, the eating speed will also be decreased and satiety will become easier to achieve.
Since the surgery is conducted with a laparoscopic surgical technique it is possible to recover the same day. It is necessary to stay in the hospital for 3 or 4 days, though. In a couple of weeks, the patient can go on with their everyday life.
The patients who undergo laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy can lose a %70-80 of their surplus weight.
It was observed that the %75 percent of type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea problems, more than half of the high blood pressure problems, half of knee pain problems, most of leg varicosis problems of the patients are improved after the surgery.
GASTRIC BALLOON
Intragastric Balloon is one of the effective methods used in the treatment of obesity. It does not require hospitalization and it ensures the loss of 15-20 kilos. But, the balloon treatment is not permanent. It has to be extracted between a period of 6 months and a year after the time it is implanted. Some patients regain the weight they have lost after the extraction of the balloon.
The technique is applied endoscopically which means no surgery is in question. The operational time is 15 minutes on average. Intragastric balloon can be applied awake, it can be applied under the mild state of sleep called sedation or it can be applied under general anaesthesia. The balloon, which is usually applied on an awake basis, should be removed under anesthesia. After the operation the patients can go home.
This technique is advantageous for patients who are scheduled for surgery according to morbid obesity and for high-risk patients, after tyhey loose 20-25 kg before surgery in order to reduce the risk. On the other hand, the application of intragastric balloon technique is also suitable for the patients who do not have a body mass higher than 40 kg/m2 or 35kg/m2 with at least one side disease, which are the conditions to undergo an obesity surgery. Besides it can also be applied to overweight patients who failed to lose weight with the use of other methods. The intragastric balloon technique is not applied to the patients with stomach diseases, patients with a long-term cortisone use and patients who are pregnant.
STOMACH BOTOX
The stomach botox ensures the neutralization of stomach muscles via the application of an injection to a very wide scale of the stomach. If the muscles that cause the stomach to contract cannot do this, foods can stay in the stomach for a very long time. Normally, carbohydrates can be emptied in 2-3 or 4 hours and 4-4,5 hours when taken with protein, after this application, the emptying time of the stomach can go up to 12 hours. There’s also a hunger hormone called ghrelin. Mostly, this hormone is extracted from the fundus of the stomach. Some of the injections are done in this area. After this injection, the level of starvation hormone can also drop very seriously. In this way, the patient’s appetite decreases and the feeling of fullness in the stomach becomes longer and the patient begins to loose weight.
The most important detail that you need to know is the amount of the botox material used. The amount of botox material used in stomach botox is a hundred times more than the amount used in skin rejuvenation. For the method to be effective, it is necessary not to restrict the dose. The cost of stomach botox should be evaluated in related to this information at hand. Operations that are conducted with a dose restriction for inexpensiveness affect the success of the method in a negative way.
It is really possible to loose 4-20 kilos in 5-6 months with a stomach botox but there is very important criterion to be followed. The patient needs to be fed in full harmony with a dietician after the procedure. The person who pays attention to this can loose 10 to 20 kilos.
The method is not recommended for patients with botox allergy, stomach ulcer, gastritis, intestinal ulcer. First, these problems in question should be solved for the procedure to be applied. For these reasons, the stomach must be examined via gastroscopy before the operation.
Though not very often, complaints of nausea or puffiness can occur after the operation. After the botox, the first process which lasts 6 months must be utilized well. Botox lasts approximately 4-6 months. Whether or not Botox is going to be repeated in the next process, depends on the general condition of the patient. Literally, it suggests to repeat up to 3 seances according to the condition of the patient.
