Blocked leg vessels can be opened with robot.

If the leg vein occlusions are not treated, it may have serious consequences such as gangrene, limb loss, and life risk. “Non-surgical methods” have been added to successful surgical procedures performed in recent years. One of them is Robotic Vessel Opening (Robotic Atherectomy) method. This painless  procedure gives very successful results in suitable patients.

Cardiovascular Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Yusuf Kalko explained the treatment methods applied in leg vessel occlusions.

Prof. Dr. Yusuf Kalko pointed out that there are many methods used for vascular surgery for occluded leg vessels. He said that, “There are common methods that we apply both in the leg vessels and in the carotid artery. Minimally invasive vascular surgeries are one of them. With a small incision we did  these surgeries by talking to the patient  and we obtained very good results in patients with vascular occlusion . We added hybrid surgeries to them last year. With this method, we have seen that more difficult and complicated cases, and even the vessels called ‘cannot be opened’, can be opened. The advantage of the method is that both open and closed methods are applied at the same time. In addition to these, we make all kinds of endovascular intervention, closed method, drug-coated balloon procedure as well as Robotic Vessel Opening processes in the same session, different sessions, alone or in combination and personalized. In Robotic Vessel Opening (Robotic Atherectomy), a tunnel is opened inside the vessel with a special tool and the plates are shaved and the vessel is cleaned completely. The method used for leg vessels gives very successful results in suitable patients. The painless method is a non-surgical procedure and gives incredibly good results in suitable patients. The method advanced more technically and began to be used under the knee.”

Treatments are planned individually

Prof. Dr. Yusuf Kalko stated that planning the right treatment for vascular patients has vital importance. He said about that, “Correct treatment planning is very important in vascular diseases. Namely; the patient’s expectation, the patient’s clinic, the patient’s age, the patient’s other diseases, and the work they do are important. If there is no wound and pain in the foot of a 70-year-old patient who has only a blocked vessel and can walk 50 meters, drug therapy, walking, exercise and preventive medicine (nutrition, appropriate medical therapy) are given first, as the world does and as the treatment guides say. On the other hand, the patient is 70 years old, but he has to sell a bagel and maintain his home, you have to intervene in that patient. Combining the closed method with the open method If possible without making an incision or making a small incision; Making Robotic atherectomy for eligible patients, a special balloon covered with medication in an eligible patient, or a balloon only mechanically to remove that lime or bypass surgery. But The last solution is bypass.
